The special educators at MCRD Navajyothi School, Thadiyoor were audience to a very informative session on Childhood Disorders and Preventive measures conducted by the Department of Psychiatry, Muthoot Healthcare, in January. The assemblage of special educators as well as some parents who attended the session was actively engaged in the discussion groups that followed.
The special educational field which relies heavily on educational psychology requires employing instructional methods that enable effective delivery. The faculty team comprising the Clinical Psychologist and Medical Social worker spoke at length about adapting content, delivery instruction and teaching methodology to meet the appropriate needs of each child.
Enlightenment of the various disorders, as well as learning disabilities plaguing individuals in their childhood, has encouraged these institutions to gear themselves to face and address these challenges in order to employ better suited training methodologies as well as gain a better understanding of the various challenges that children undergo.
The Healthcare institution is keen on providing support through its varied services and is hopeful of bettering the lives of the differently-abled with its specialized services and has continually demonstrated its commitment to effective and stimulated learning.
After the general acclaim received from the participants of the preliminary session conducted on Childhood disorders at Muthoot Healthcare in September, there has been a consistent request from many schools to conduct similar such educative sessions at the school venue itself.
Consequentially, a team from the Department of Psychiatry, Muthoot Healthcare comprising Vidya Thankappan, Clinical Psychologist and Nimmy Koshy, Medical Social Worker conducted specialized sessions at Bethany School, Vennikulam for the parents and teachers of the wards admitted there. It led the audience to a greater grasp of various childhood disorders and study skills related topics in the informative sessions so conducted
These sessions were instrumental in aiding in the identification of various disorders, thus foreseeing as well as vastly preventing behavioral issues. A host of topics ranging from learning disability, ADHD, exam anxiety, behavioral disorders and study skills were covered, alerting the adult audience about the various behavioral, discipline and academic problems that existed.
The positive feedback from Bethany School provided a fillip to the efforts of the Psychiatry Department, which has been encouraged to continue to conduct more such scholastic sessions.
The specialized panel of Doctors from Muthoot Healthcare, Kozhencherry, led by Dr.Cherian Mathew, Chief Surgeon, Department of Surgery and Dr.Manoj Thomas Kuruvilla, Consultant Endocrinologist, Department of Endocrinology conducted a free thyroid detection camp in association with YWCA, Thiruvalla in January 2015.
After the official inauguration, educative sessions were jointly conducted by Dr.Cherian Mathew and Dr.Manoj Thomas Kuruvilla, encouraging the patients to approach thyroid diagnosis and treatment with a more open mind.
Conducting specific thyroid-related screening tests, the patients were then provided clinical consultation services by both specialists. Their practical-minded approach to diagnostic and treatment practices was instrumental in meeting the needs of the thyroid patients. The patient could therefore look forward to an early diagnosis and alleviation of symptoms.
The patient floor, numbering well over 160 numbers which predominantly comprised of many senior citizens evinced keen interest. Worldwide, thyroid testing has increased showing the growing prevalence of thyroid disorders. This camp was successful in enlightening the YWCA members and public about the detection and treatment of this problem which most people were ignorant about. Cases that tested positive were followed up at the Healthcare provider’s branch in Kozhencherry.
Also, with the rapid advancement in medical technology, Muthoot Healthcare has left no stone unturned to introduce sophisticated technology and services to provide the very best possible care to patients.
Anticipating the much-needed requirement to provide medical services to the multitudes of pilgrims visiting Sabarimala, Muthoot Healthcare rose to fulfill a long-felt need to start a Medical Aid Post within the premises of the Aranmula Parthasarthy Temple in November 2014. Muthoot Healthcare, guided by the visionary leadership of Dr.Georgie Kurien, has once again unfurled its flag of social responsibility by championing the voice of the unheard. A Total Hip Replacement (THR) of the left hip was successfully performed by the proficient team of Orthopaedic surgeons on patient Charly in November this year.
The 19-year-old youngster from Chenganoor in Alappuzha District was forced to discontinue her much-cherished course in fashion designing when she found herself having to grip the harsh reality of being afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis. The debilitating effects of the disease resulted in associated problems ranging from thyroid problems, growth hormone deficiencies, tissue inflammation, reduced physical capacity, all of which compounded the suffering of the patient
When Mathrubhumi, the daily Malayalam publication catapulted Charly into the hearts of the malayali reader, Muthoot Healthcare rose to the occasion to provide the much needed succor for the teenager and her sibling Chandini, a nursing graduate, both who lost their father in their early childhood and were brought up singlehandedly by Indira, their mother, who worked as a domestic in various homes.
After a preliminary visit to Charly’s house by the Healthcare team comprising Dr.Muralikrishnan N and Dr.Praveen C R, Orthopedic Surgeons, Mr.Mathew Kurien, General Manager-Operations and members of his team to assess the merits of the case, a decision was taken by Dr.Georgie Kurien, the Executive Director to conduct the surgery absolutely free of cost
Charly, who has been able to progressively take short strides after the surgery, may require a Total Hip Replacement of the right hip and Total Knee Replacement, if she doesn’t respond favorably to the three month course of medication
The concerted efforts of the dedicated team of Orthopedic surgeons, Anesthetist's, Endocrinologists, Physicians and Healthcare workers have given Charly renewed vigor and hope for the future. Tears mingle with smiles with every short step she takes, as she reminiscences the easing of her long standing suffering. The healthcare institution’s gesture of taking Chandini on board as a staff nurse, broadens Charlie’s smile, for now there’s a way to battle the drudgery they had for long been living with.
